Character.AI Creator Insights: Metrics Are Different From Private Chats

Read Character.AI’s creator-access statement alongside its analytics documentation, and distinguish character visibility, private transcripts and data-use choices.

Quick answer

Character.AI says creators cannot see your conversations with their characters. Its Creator Insights documentation describes performance metrics such as interactions and discoveries. Those counts are not a private transcript. Assess creator visibility separately from content you publish, device access and the provider’s data-use policy.

Character.AI’s creator-access answer says creators cannot see conversations you have with their characters. The existence of a creator analytics dashboard should not be interpreted as proof that this statement has been replaced by transcript access.

We reviewed the published documentation. We did not audit internal access controls or test a creator dashboard against another person’s account. The distinction here is between what the documents describe, not an independent security certification.

Read a metric as a metric

The Creator Insights guide describes interactions, likes, followers and discoveries, with data updated on a daily cycle. An interaction count and the words inside a private conversation are different kinds of information.

Imagine a dashboard showing that one fictional character received more interactions this week than last week. That can tell its creator something about activity. It does not, by itself, identify a particular person’s text, explain why they wrote it or reveal a transcript.

Likewise, a creator noticing a rise in activity after sharing a character does not prove they can see which private message you sent. Avoid filling gaps in a dashboard description with assumptions about capabilities it does not document.

Separate three visibility questions

Question Evidence to use
Can a character creator read my private conversation? The current explicit creator-access statement
What performance information does a creator receive? The current Insights metric definitions
How is content processed by the platform? The provider’s policy and data-use controls

A fourth question concerns your own sharing. If you post a transcript or screenshot, its recipient can see what you chose to share. That exposure does not require any creator dashboard feature.

Before sharing an image for troubleshooting, inspect the username, sidebar, notifications and adjacent messages. Use a fictional reproduction or the smallest relevant excerpt when possible.

Character visibility is another setting

A public, unlisted or private character concerns who can find or use that character. Do not automatically equate character visibility with public access to every private conversation involving it. Read the current control’s scope before changing a setting you care about.

If a character or public post includes personal information, assess that publication directly. A general assurance about private chats does not tell you whether a separate public item was appropriate to publish.

Provider data use needs its own review

Character.AI’s model-training settings article describes an opt-out route for EEA and UK users and explains its scope. Do not assume the same control is available to every region or that a training preference changes the creator dashboard’s definition.

If a processing question affects what you are willing to submit, ask it precisely through official support and withhold sensitive material while it remains unresolved. A sound privacy decision names the audience, the information and the intended control. It does not turn an interaction counter into an unsupported claim that someone is reading along.

Sources and verification

This guide distinguishes published documentation from examples and observations. Feature access, policies and account screens can change; the linked source governs its own terms.
